Plastic-free, minimal, zero waste shopping in Dublin

“THE SHEER SCALE OF THE CHALLENGE MAY SEEM DAUNTING, BUT MORE AND MORE HOUSEHOLDS ARE REDUCING THEIR WASTE. IF WE ALL JOIN IN, THAT MAKES REAL CHANGE POSSIBLE.”

We were delighted to be included in this brilliant Irish Times article by Manchán Magan. The article details the pioneers, (including us!) who have for many years now been fighting the dangerous wastefulness that is ruining our planet and costing us our health. Plastic is a dangerous, toxic carcinogen. Tons of it is making its way into landfill and our seas. It is predicted by the Ellen McArthur Foundation that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. This is a depressing projection that can be stopped in its tracks if we take action now.

At our market, our farmers sell nearly all of their produce loose, there are some packaged items but even these are biodegradable and plant made. Very importantly also is the fact that all the food is organic. This means that the toxic and destructive chemicals used to grow ‘commercial’ food are not used by our farmers or are in the food you are eating.

We also provide refills on household items such as washing up liquid, laundry liquid, toilet cleaner, fabric conditioner, shampoos, conditioners, hand soap and all-purpose cleaner. Added to this are zero waste items such as palm-free shampoo bars, soaps, bamboo toothbrushes, loose dry goods such as grains, beans and others. We provide bulk orders of almost anything by order and at other stalls, there are olive oil refills and if you bring your own containers you can take the cheeses and other items without any wrapping! We aim to keep adding to this as we go.

We recycle the food packages that are provided by our suppliers so you can bring these back to us and we send them back to the manufacturers via our distributor. These are just some of the services we have been providing for years. We are also delighted to be described in the article as, “A mecca of organic, plastic-free shopping, with everything from food to body products, supplements and cleaning goods.” If you want to start making a difference, start with your weekly shopping habits and come to us where you buy directly from the producer, foods that are sustainably grown for your health and the planets and there is aim to get as zero waste as possible. It’s a habit worth forming, starting today!
