We are a family run organic vegetable and fruit farm in Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath, managed by Rose O’Sullivan and Martin Fox. We obtained our full organic symbol from The Organic Trust in 2008.
Our farm is small – only 2ha – but we use every available square meter. The land here is very suited to vegetable production, being slightly boggy but flat.
Our main crops are potatoes, carrots, salads, cabbages, herbs, leeks and swedes. We also grow flowers during the Summer. We have a small fruit garden growing raspberries, strawberries, tayberries and gooseberries. We have plans to extend our fruit garden in 2012 to include apple, pear and plum trees.
We also have a small poultry unit, consisting of 70 laying hens, with full organic status on the eggs.
We have acheived a licence from the department of Agriculture to import and distribute organic produce, which we use on a weekly basis to import fruits and vegetables out of season.
We love our small farm. It’s a great place to raise our children, and it’s a privilege to grow quality food for people who truly appreciate it.
